How To Do Posters
Over years of research on how to do poster creation we’ve found the following tips to be the most effective for assembling poster panels:
- Consider assembling your poster on a large piece of cardboard or thin wooden paneling. This will give you the advantage of having your poster portable and it won’t damage walls. If you use wooden interior paneling try to find the style that has very slight vertical lines in the design. That will increase panel assembly accuracy. Also consider purchasing paneling that is white with vertical lines or paint the paneling white before beginning.
- Use the highest quality straight-edge paper cutter you can get to cut the edges off each panel. Since most printers don't print to the very edge of pages, you'll need to cut off these margins and the better quality the paper cutter used the easier this task will be, plus you'll end up with straighter edges. We've used poor quality paper cutters and it can increase the time to get margin‑free panels prepared for assembly.
- There are low‑cost laser straight edge devices that are perfect for aligning panels accurately. Make sure to rely on the laser line more than the page edges. Only two page borders need to be cut to assemble panels through the creation of the poster, but these edges will not be “factory accurate” even if you use the highest quality paper cutter. When aligning and assembling panels, place the laser line across the surface and rely on it exclusively to improve your results.
- Use glue sticks and spray glue combined: Use glue stick glue around the edges of the back of each panel, place and align two of the edges, then lightly spray the back center of each panel before fastening to the surface you’re using.
With these tips, make your own poster by assembling the panels one‑by‑one, across and down the surface. This is the way billboards are created.
If you’ve following the instructions above you’ll notice how strikingly lines or any distinction between individual panels is hardly if at all noticeable. We hope this has sparked ideas on how to do poster creation using your own personal photos that are meaningful to you. Poster creation from smartphone or camera pictures is simpler today than ever before. Good luck!
